What is collagen?

Collagen is a protein found abundantly in the body, especially in the joint and skin areas. Its role is to preserve bone and joint health and the elasticity of the skin.

From the age of 30, we lose around 1% of collagen per year. Collagen needs are even greater after a sports session. Indeed, this protein promotes tendon and joint regeneration by emitting degradation signals in the joints so that they produce more collagen.

On the market, we find collagen in the form of capsules but also in powder form. The recommended dosage is 10g per day. Today's diet does not provide such a satisfactory level, so it is recommended to supplement with collagen on a daily basis. A deficiency of this protein leads to a longer recovery from joint problems and physical recovery may be delayed or incomplete. This creates a risk of long-term tendon or joint problems that we cannot get rid of later.

Taking collagen should start when you start exercising since protein needs are no longer the same. You should not wait until the body is weakened to supplement with collagen. Supplementing becomes essential for any athlete concerned about their joints.

Why is hydrolyzed collagen more effective?

Fragmented collagen protein is called hydrolyzed collagen, which makes it better assimilated by the body. Digestion is thus simpler to carry out because by fragmenting the protein, the body's work is made easier. Thus, 90% of collagen hydrolyzate is assimilated by the body without degradation of the particles: the benefits therefore circulate more quickly in the body than dietary collagen or gelatin. Collagen hydrolyzate retains all the benefits of collagen but circulates more quickly in the body so that you benefit from its effects more quickly. .

Classic proteins should not be neglected in the diet because collagen hydrolyzate is not a protein that nourishes the muscle.

Which collagen to choose?

There are several types of collagen that target different parts of the body and serve different purposes. In this article we will focus on type 1 and 2 collagens which are most used in sports.

Type 1

Type 1 collagen is the one most commonly found in the body, particularly in tendons, organs, skin and ligaments.

Without any particular target, it is the ideal type of collagen to consume to preserve your health and prevent tendon and joint problems. It also allows the skin to maintain its elasticity. Its consumption can help with sports recovery and provides flexibility to the joint limbs on a daily basis. If you want to supplement your sports diet with collagen, type 1 will perfectly meet your needs.

Type 2

Type 2 collagen is found only in cartilage. Its action is targeted on joint repair and cartilage reconstruction. It is ideal for people who suffer from joint problems or are more prone to this type of ailment, as it is up to ten times more effective than collagen 1 on tendon areas.

Marine or bovine collagen?

Collagen is a protein found exclusively in animals, particularly in cattle and marine animals for types 1 and 2.

At Nutrimuscle, our Marine and Bovine Collagen come from the same producer. Their difference relates to the raw material used and your consumption preferences. Their benefits are largely the same, we only notice a more pronounced improvement in the quality of the skin with Marine Collagen and on the joints with Bovine Collagen.
